TEARS, Inc. was recently awarded $21,000 in funding from United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley for fiscal year 2015-2016.
On July 25, 2014, TEARS, Inc. held their Summer Abstinence Education Program Graduation Ceremony. Parents, grandparents, friends and siblings watched as 25 students received their graduation certificates. Mayor Eddie Lowe was in attendance and spoke a brief word of encouragement to the young people. During the ceremony, students show cased their talents and held a fashion show that included skirts that were sewn by the girls and basketball shorts sewn by the boys. The program also included tours of 5 colleges covering three states - Alabama, Georgia and Florida. They also visited the NASA Rocket Space Center in Huntsville, AL and learned about the International Space Centers and the life of an astronaut. The youth participated in a "Say It With Music' workshop where they created their own abstinence musical message called "I'm Waiting'. Each youth sang a part in the song to make it their own. Afterwards, guests enjoyed a delicious meal.
TEARS completed its Community Garden training on 28 August 2014. Tuskegee TAP Youth Program will begin its community garden project in October 2014.
November is Runaway and Homeless Youth Awareness Month. Please donate green socks during the entire month of November. Also, show your support by wearing green socks the last week of November.
